Keep these general guidelines in mind while creating your site:

  • Don't over-complicate pages. Keep them clear and concise.
  • Avoid flashing or animated images.
  • Avoid using sounds on your pages (it may interfere with screen readers).
  • Use descriptive links (e.g., "The Queen's Encyclopedia", instead of "Click Here" or "http://qnc.queensu.ca/Encyclopedia/")
  • When adding an image to WebPublish, always add a description for the image. This allows a screen reader to describe the image to a visually impaired person.
  • Avoid using comments like: "See below", or "as described above". These are confusing to people using screen readers where position has no meaning.
