The instructions below cover recording video or audio and uploading it to "Our Storied Map".

Record Your Story

Your story can be recorded numerous ways. The instructions below cover recording on iOS, Android, Mac and a PC but you are welcome to record your message differently as long as it can be uploaded to onQ. 

On a Mac
  1. Open QuickTime and choose File >New Audio Recording
  2. Click the Record button and begin your story
  3. When finished, choose the Stop button, select File>Save and choose a name and location to save.
On a PC
  1. Open the Start Menu and select the Voice Recorder App
  2. In the App, click on the green microphone icon and begin recording
  3. When finished, click the Stop button. Your recording will be listed under Today
  4. Right click on the recording and choose Open File Location to find your recorded file
On an iOS Device
  1. Open the Voice Memos App. Allow the App to access your Microphone
  2. Begin recording. Tap the Stop button when finished
On an Android



On a Mac
  1. Open QuickTime and choose File >New Video Recording
  2. Click the Record button and begin your story
  3. When finished, choose the Stop button, select File>Save and choose a name and location to save.
On a PC
  1. Open the start menu and select the Camera App
  2. In the app, switch to Video mode and begin recording
On an iOS device
  1. Open the Camera app and switch to Video
  2. Tap the Record button. Tap the Stop button when finished
  • For the purposes of the activity it's recommended that you change your record settings to 720p to save space and make uploading the video faster. This can be done by tapping Settings>Camera>Record Video and choosing 720p at 30fps.
  • Before recording, orient your phone into Landscape. This will record in widescreen as opposed to the "Cell Phone" orientation.
On an Android


Share Your Story on the Map (Optional)
  1. Access the Padlet activity from your course
  2. On the map, select the target icon to create a post
  3. Search the location. You can use a specific address or a place name
  4. Write a brief description of your story. You can sign off with your name if you are comfortable identifying yourself, otherwise your post will be anonymous.

  5. Choose the upload button and select your video or audio file. 

    If you are uploading on a mobile device it's recommended that you be connected to wifi as overages could be incurred on data. 

    The upload limit to Padlet is 250 mb. If your video is larger than this, you can upload it to YouTube and share it in Padlet as an unlisted video link. Please see Posting a Video to YouTube for more information.
